Hundreds of Countries。

Billions of Dollars。
One Lie。

In 2014 a brilliant Oxford graduate called Dr Ruja Ignatova promised to revolutionise money and make people rich in the process。 The future, she said, belonged to cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin。 And the self-styled cryptoqueen vowed that she had invented the Bitcoin Killer。 She launched OneCoin, an exciting new cryptocurrency that she promised would not only earn its investors untold fortunes, it would change the world。 OneCoin swept the globe - becoming one of the fastest companies to make $1 billion in revenue。

By 2017, billions of dollars had been invested in OneCoin in hundreds of countries, from the USA to Pakistan, Hong Kong to Yemen, and the UK to Uganda。 But by the end of the year Ruja Ignatova had disappeared, along with the money, and it slowly became clear that her revolutionary cryptocurrency was not all it seemed。

The Missing Cryptoqueen tells the unbelievable story of the rise, disappearance and fall of Dr Ruja Ignatova。 It is a modern tale of intrigue, techno-hype and herd madness that reveals how OneCoin became the biggest scam of the 21st Century。

4。5 ⭐️Fascinating and maddening。The CryptoQueen is still out there, living like royalty with her ponzi $$$ on her super yacht in international waters。 Her bogus OneCoin is still being sold to the unsuspecting who haven’t gotten the news。 All of her partners are behind bars。 But she figured out how to play the global shell game with her billions that Putin himself must admire。 Next level villainy。

Jamie Bartlett has carved his space out - making investagative reporting on digital spaces exciting。 Though he colors the story a little more than I'd prefer, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hooked right away。 Powered through this in just a couple days because I just kept finding myself wondering what happened next。 Highly suggest for anyone interested in current events, true crime, web3。0, etc。 Jamie Bartlett has carved his space out - making investagative reporting on digital spaces exciting。 Though he colors the story a little more than I'd prefer, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hooked right away。 Powered through this in just a couple days because I just kept finding myself wondering what happened next。 Highly suggest for anyone interested in current events, true crime, web3。0, etc。 。。。more

I invested $83,000 on bitcoin , believing I will receive 40% interest after 3 weeks of investing in a binary option where a broker will trade on my behalf and send my profit, I was unable to reach the broker, he blocked my number and ran away with my money, fortunately, I was referred to David Mooore 。 He is the private investigator who helped me recover all my money his mail : davidmoore9951 @ gm ail 。 com

WAS THIS THE PLAN FROM THE BEGINNING? Fascinating story of Ruja Ignatova, the “Cypto Queen”。 I would like to hear more about how they did what they did and especially why they did it? Specifically, was it their plan for this to be a scam from the beginning or did things just get out of hand at some point。 The story is not done so perhaps we will get a sequel at some point。 Terribly sad and tragic for the millions of people who were ripped off。 The author Jamie Barlett did a great job piecing thi WAS THIS THE PLAN FROM THE BEGINNING? One of the better books of this type to come out in recent years。 Well researched and some excellent investigative journalism and an interesting theory at the end, that very well could turn out to be true。

The Missing Crypto Queen by Jamie Bartlett tells the true story of Dr。 Ruja Ignatova who started a company One Coin that she said would be better than bitcoin。 The reader learns all about multi level marketing (MLM) which is used in some well known companies like Amway。 The promotions and marketing used by One Coin were very successful in getting the average person to invest, at times, all their savings in One Coin。 However, it was all a scam! This is a story I knew nothing about - an enormous scam with paper losses to rival Madoff。 The genius of the scam was how it combined two "suspension of disbelief" trends - cryptocurrency and multi-level marketing (MLM)。The essence was simple --Use the power of multi-level marketing influencers to push onto "downline" members "education packages" on how to get rich on cryptocurrency。 The education packages sold for multiples of thousands of euros and in return for some sloppy boilerplate "lesson This is a story I knew nothing about - an enormous scam with paper losses to rival Madoff。 The genius of the scam was how it combined two "suspension of disbelief" trends - cryptocurrency and multi-level marketing (MLM)。The essence was simple --Use the power of multi-level marketing influencers to push onto "downline" members "education packages" on how to get rich on cryptocurrency。 The education packages sold for multiples of thousands of euros and in return for some sloppy boilerplate "lessons", the purchaser received crypto coins (called OneCoin)。 These coins were not tradeable on public exchanges and could be cashed out only in a very restricted manner。 But why cash out? The value of the coins was going up and upon some future IPO or ICO, holders would get rich。 Why not? bitcoin was rising in price and the OneCoins were too。 How was the price set? You'll need to read the book。This is a fast read and never gets too technical。 Most of the principals were not available for interviews so a lot of the material comes from third party accounts like magazine articles, YouTube videos, and court filings。 The best part of the book is the sheer audacity of the scheme along with the sheer shamelessness of MLM。 Both MLM and crypto prey on people's intense desire to get rich quick。 Of course, those who get in early are the winners, if there are winners at all。 The scheme did not require people to warehouse cosmetics or nutrition products in their garage so it was even more appealing。The book follows after a popular BBC podcast (which I have never heard)。 I suspect if you had listened to the podcast, there would be nothing new here。Surprisingly, no photos - given that the story revolves around a set of principals, many Bulgarian including the founder "Dr。 Ruja"。If you like reading about financial scams, this is for you。 As I said, a quick read。 Veered on the edge of keeping me up past my bedtime。 。。。more

I had no idea that this had happened。 I hadn't listened to the podcast but I thought the book seemed really interesting when I came across it。 It is such a thrilling ride that it almost reads as a fiction novel at times。 Especially considering the ending per the title of the book; she still hasn't surfaced nor has she spoken on the why or given any reasons for her actions。 So it's very open ended。 But it is truly thrilling and is an utter page turner。 I hate how companies that are MLM take advan I had no idea that this had happened。 I hadn't listened to the podcast but I thought the book seemed really interesting when I came across it。 It is such a thrilling ride that it almost reads as a fiction novel at times。 Especially considering the ending per the title of the book; she still hasn't surfaced nor has she spoken on the why or given any reasons for her actions。 So it's very open ended。 But it is truly thrilling and is an utter page turner。 I hate how companies that are MLM take advantage of desperate people。 It's gross。 They lie, cheat and are utterly manipulative at times。 I've seen people post on my own FB complaining that people aren't supporting their "small business", despite their "small business" is being part of a MLM and selling their products。 I've also heard stories of what manipulative "uplines" tell their "downlines"。 As someone who isn't involved with crypto, I hadn't heard of OneCoin。 Getting into this, I wondered whether it would be another Elizabeth Holmes situation; making promises they can't deliver and making declarations that are false。 And it definitely was a small part of it, but it wasn't the main focus of the story。 There was so many other things going on, including the whole "Fake it till you make it", "FOMO" and I don't think Raja actually understood how important blockchains were nor did she understand the actual market of crypocurrency itself。 She made a rod for her own back later on by not doing it properly。 It is just a whole mess。 Due to this, you can tell the author put so much research into this。 I mean, it must have been a hell of a lot of work to organise the research so it makes narrative sense。 It wouldn't have been an easy task at all。 It is well written and I really reccomend this if you're interested in the subject matter。 It was really interesting learning more background about Raja。 Along with the people around her, who helped made her business such a success at the start。 It doesn't answer all questions which is perfectly understable considering the most important person of this story has stayed silent。 You can only gather so much outside information。 I would've loved to learn more things about her husband and child, but again, I understand why there isn't much included。 You also don't know if she has any communication links to her family, which again, unless someone close admits to being in contact, you cannot confirm it。 Also, for a complete newbie with crypto, I felt the explanations on what it is to be slightly lacking。 It almost expects you to have some background knowledge, which is a bit of a shame, as it makes it less assessable for other people, who don't have that background。 。。。more

Highly recommend this true story thriller about Dr。 Ruja Ignatova and OneCoin。 Dr。 Ruja is an Oxford graduate who created OneCoin to become the #1 cryptocurrency in the world。 Over $4 billion dollars were invested by people in over 175 countries who became enamored with the company and it's tremendous growth trajectory。 Part of what drove the eye-popping growth was FOMO, the fear of missing out。 The tragedy is that many ordinary people who scrimped and saved invested their hard earned life savin Highly recommend this true story thriller about Dr。 Ruja Ignatova and OneCoin。 Dr。 Ruja is an Oxford graduate who created OneCoin to become the #1 cryptocurrency in the world。 Over $4 billion dollars were invested by people in over 175 countries who became enamored with the company and it's tremendous growth trajectory。 Part of what drove the eye-popping growth was FOMO, the fear of missing out。 The tragedy is that many ordinary people who scrimped and saved invested their hard earned life savings into something they thought would pay off handsomely。The multilevel marketers at OneCoin earned commission off any person they recruited into the organization, so many of the marketers recruited friends and family into OneCoin。 The company grew to over 10,000 multilevel marketers。 The marketers were told to sell a lifestyle。 Leaders and marketers in the business purchased expensive homes, yachts, clothing, and jewelry and flaunted their belongings which fed into the desire of new recruits to realize wealth。 Throughout the book there is information about the very thin line between a genuine business and a pyramid or Ponzi scheme。 One phrase that stood out for me is that "Ponzi schemes cause you to dream, not think。" Jamie Bartlett, the author, is also the creator of the BBC podcast about Dr。 Ruja and OneCoin。 She disappeared in October 2017 and was put on the FBI's most wanted list in June 2022。 This story will continue to unfold over the next few years。Highly, highly recommend!! 。。。more

What a great story。 Truly a page turner。 I couldn't put it down。 Brilliantly researched and well written。 The book uncovers the story of OneCoin - a fake cryptocurrency / blockchain that scammed people out of $4 billion dollars by promising financial freedom and a technical revolution。 The scheme was orchestrated by Dr。 Ruja, who at the time was called a financial genius but has now disappeared, and reveals the inner workings (and dangers) of multi-level marketing。 It is an unbelievable story - What a great story。 Truly a page turner。 I couldn't put it down。 Brilliantly researched and well written。 The book uncovers the story of OneCoin - a fake cryptocurrency / blockchain that scammed people out of $4 billion dollars by promising financial freedom and a technical revolution。 The scheme was orchestrated by Dr。 Ruja, who at the time was called a financial genius but has now disappeared, and reveals the inner workings (and dangers) of multi-level marketing。 It is an unbelievable story - I highly recommend it。 。。。more

I enjoyed the book, but I feel it had a couple of very obvious weaknesses。 First, it didn't do a super good job of explaining cryptocurrency。 Second, while it highlighted Ruja's conspicuous consumption of couture, jewelry and real estate, it barely mentioned the husband and daughter (both of which, I assume, were left behind when Ruja disappeared)。 Third, it was very unclear as to whether Ruja had truly disappeared off the grid, or whether she was just physically gone but still in contact with her network via other communication means。 And fourth。。。 I think some pictures would have been nice! 。。。more
